Karina Rykman

Marco Benevento

"I use the XL Nickel Wound 10's for guitar strings and the XL Chromes flat wound bass strings! I haven't changed the strings on my main bass in four years—the way the flat wounds age like fine wine is just to die for. So warm, so buttery. I'm a huge fan."

ABOUT Karina Rykman

Karina Rykman exudes a boundless creative fervor in every facet of her musical journey, which started around age 12 when a classmate put an acoustic guitar in her lap and taught her "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes. By age 13, Rykman was playing in a punk band called False Arrest, performing at storied NYC clubs such as The Knitting Factory and lying to promoters about how many tickets they were worth. She then went on to play in countless bands in her teens, as well as taking on television gigs such as backing up pop star Julia Michaels on the Today Show and performing on America's Got Talent. Karina's insatiable desire to immerse herself in music started then and has only intensified with the development of her solo career. With an eternal sense of joy, Rykman's rich and diverse musical palette is palpable. Her songs are built upon her taste for the bass, resulting in an inviting and captivating sound while also embracing elements of risk, ethereality, and delightful surprise.

She has supported acts such as Khruangbin, Guster, the Disco Biscuits, and more at prestigious venues like Harpa in Reykjavik, Iceland, and the Red Rocks Amphitheater. With the panache to win over any crowd, her show has taken over major festivals such as Bonnaroo, Peach Music Festival, Sweetwater 420 Fest, and more. In a week, she seamlessly goes from playing in the 8G Band on Late Night with Seth Meyers to selling out late-night shows in New Orleans, sitting in with friends along the way. Rykman continues to leave an indelible mark on the music scene, capturing the hearts of fans and fellow musicians alike. And this is just the beginning.
