D'Addario have been my personal choice of strings for over 30 years. I use flatwound Chromes on my electrics, EJ74 for mandolin and various mixed sets for ukulele.

Acclaimed New York guitar virtuoso, composer and bandleader Sten Hostfalt is recognized by leading international press as one of few guitarists worldwide to regularly live in concert create and perform new original music beyond the equal tempered 12-tone system using self-invented interpretative techniques for the standard 6 string/12 fret guitar. Actively contributing to the expansion of the vocabulary for the world's most played and most popular instrument. A Swedish-born American and initially self-taught, early didactic encounters with blues greats Big Joe Williams, Clarence Gatemouth Brown and jazz piano master Horace Parlan, awards and degrees from Berklee College Of Music and New England Conservatory and studies with legendary Icons of American Music Jimmy Giuffre and Joe Maneri, led to the international introduction as an apprentice in Jazz orchestras led by Phil Wilson, Herb Pomeroy and George Russell, appearances on recordings initiated by Jazz masters Paul Bley and Gary Burton, and the initial contribution to the early 90's New York scene as a member of Guillermo Klein's ensemble, alongside leading improvisers in the new generation of Jazz, during the inception of Mitch Borden's Jazz Club, Smalls. As a NYC based bandleader and proprietor of the independent record label Sonus Rex with six albums as a leader produced, he has fused microtonality with electronica, spoken word and a variety of instrumentations including trombone, violin, clarinet, mandolin, accordion and toy piano, combining third stream, avantgarde and traditional Jazz aesthetics. From the acclaimed solo concert CD 29 PIeces For The Microtonal Guitar Live At Knitting Factory to solo concerts at New Yorks Symphony Space, featuring microtonal interpretations and re-arrangements of Standards from The American Songbook. And the world premiere solo concert performance of the original work Four New Microtonal Pieces at XXXV Encontres de Compositors Festival, Palma de Mallorca Spain, at Fundacio' Pilar i Joan Miro'. As well as his original 15-piece microtonal large ensemble Dimensional States. A veteran educator, with three decades in creative music education, Mr. Hostfalt has served as a faculty member and invited lecturer at leading institutions worldwide including The Royal Academy Of Music in Stockholm, New World School for The Arts, University Of Florida / Miami-Dade College, Berklee College Of Music and New England Conservatory. Currently a New York Jazz Academy faculty member, he is the Founder / Director of NYC Guitar Studio, Manhattan-a multi-genre world class music education operation, notably known as one of few schools worldwide to offer systematic hands-on studies of microtonal music for the traditional guitar.
