ABOUT DOREEN KETCHENS

Clarinetist and bandleader, Doreen Ketchens has gained notoriety over the past 35 years with her innovative, energetic, and soulful performances on the streets of the French Quarters and around the world. Doreen trained classically under Stanley Weinstein while attending high school and college. She attended Delgado Community College, Loyola University, Southern University In New Orleans, and through numerous scholarships - including one from the New York Philharmonic - attended The Hartt School of Music. She has an innovative and distinct playing style that has been described as "amazing" and "brilliant". Doreen also has a robust singing voice that will stop you in your tracks. Ketchens has recorded and performed with many well-known musicians, including Ellis Marsalis, Trombone Shorty, and The Black Crows, to name a few. Doreen built a crossover audience after performances with The Chicago Clarinet Ensemble as well as The Louisiana Philharmonic in a standing room only concert at St. Louis Cathedral. Doreen's Jazz New Orleans (which includes her husband Lawrence Ketchens II), has performed nationally and internationally. They have performed for four U.S. Presidents and have appeared performing on NPR and other radio programs, television shows like HBO's "Treme", national commercials, music videos and movies such as Tyler Perry's "Temptation". Doreen's Jazz has a stellar reputation, millions of fans around the world and Internet Fame with viral videos reaching over Eighty-five million views. Doreen's Jazz also educates students of many ages and languages through Master Classes and Workshops and has proudly and independently produced 30 Cd's and 3 DVD's.
