How to Choose a Concert Bass Drumhead

The bass drum is the bedrock of a concert band, so it’s important to get the right drum tone to solidify your sound. When it comes to choosing a concert bass drumhead, you’ll want to start by picking the correct size. Common marching bass drum sizes are 36” & 40”, however we also have a head available in 28”, 30”, and 32”.

Once you know the correct size, it’s time to find your sound. EVANS makes three great options for concert bass heads: Strata 1000, Strata 1400, and Strata 1400 with Power Center. The Strata 1000 boasts a dark timbre and warm tone which closely resembles calfskin. The Strata 1400 provides full-bodied sustain and a balanced attack. Last, but not least the Strat 1400 with Power Center increases attack and low end for a larger, deeper sound.
