"The MX5 satisfies all of the tonal precision I need from a bottom head, which is crucial when playing marching snare."
How to Choose a Marching Snare Side Drumhead
Marching Snare Side drumheads may have a bit less impact on your tone, but they’re still an important part of the equation. You’ll always want to be sure of the size of your drum and get the correct snare side size. With EVANS Marching snare side heads, you can choose between 13” and 14”. Once you got that, it’s a matter of tonal preference.
EVANS MX5 Snare Side marching drumhead aramid fiber and polyester laminate for maximum snare response. This 5mil single-ply drumhead contains a thin overtone control ring that enhances articulation by reinforcing the edge durability, which eliminates unwanted overtones.
One of our most popular models, the Hybrid features high-tensile fibers in an open weave pattern, embedded between two ultra-thin layers of clear film. These drumheads produce the sound and sensitivity of a polyester bottom head with the stretchy resistance of aramid fiber.
We also offer the EVANS MS3 Marching Snare Side which has a traditional film sound, but with extreme durability. This 3mil single-ply drumhead features a 2mil overtone control ring that helps to suppress some of the unwanted higher frequencies.
